About us ...
Tunnel construction, road construction, civil engineering or structural engineering
– without concrete and construction technology know-how our expectations for modern
infrastructure and trendsetting residential environments can´t be met. With their
innovations our members help shaping the way we work and live tomorrow.
The Austrian Society for Construction Technology (Österreichische Bautechnik Vereinigung,
öbv) comprises 200 member companies and institutions, including major developers,
the entire construction industry, engineering consultancies, universities and colleges
as well as well-known product manufacturers.
The primary object of the Association is for representatives of the member companies
and institutions to jointly develop the state of the art in concrete and construction
technology. For technical topics, working groups are formed which develop the technical
content of öbv Guidelines. öbv passes on the developed knowledge to members‘ employees
at further training sessions, technical seminars and congresses.
Guidelines - Co-determining important standards
Guidelines are developed in the öbv working groups for various subject areas. They
summarise the state of the art and thus become an important tool for putting out
to tender, planning, executing and evaluating construction projects. Our members
co-determine what content will ultimately be published. On the öbv platform they
can also participate in research projects.
Seminars - Improving technical knowledge
To provide basic training and further training for all those responsible for the
success of a structure (developers, planners, contractors and suppliers) öbv has,
together with the Ready-mix Concrete Quality Association (Güteverband Transportbeton),
created its own training institution. The Concrete Academy offers over 100 seminars
a year throughout Austria, providing not only a basic knowledge of concrete technology
but also a wide range of concrete and construction technology applications.
Conventions - Making good use of international know-how
In addition to seminars, öbv also organises congresses and conferences such as the
Building Congress, which takes place every two years. The two-day event brings experts
to Vienna from all over Central Europe. Technical trends and major projects are
explained, planning and works executed in tunnel construction, road construction,
civil engineering and structural engineering are analysed. The Building Congress
is thus becoming the most important platform for construction knowledge in Central
